FAQs

  1. We've tried to facilitate some team discussions around equity, white supremacy, racial justice, etc, and it was really challenging of course. We aren't experts at this. We are all white by the way, and a majority of our team is too. Is that okay?  I love that you’ve already tried to facilitate some team discussions around equity and that your takeaway is that you are not an expert. No one is:) That you are struggling with issues that have only recently risen to this level of global consciousness is EVERYTHING! We will all need to be shoulder to shoulder for quite some time before the fog lifts!!
  2. Who attends the intro session and what is covered there? The intro session is reserved for team leadership and has included A-captains, B-captains, coaches, treasurers, social coordinators, and more! All that to say, anyone your team considers to be in a key leadership position is encouraged to attend! While I’ve met with as many as 12, my preferred number is 5 or fewer people for the intro session. I refer to the intro session as a courtship of sorts. We’re effectively trying each other out to see if we even want to enter into a 3-session bundle:) I will take leadership through a mini team session with the goal of getting a picture of the team as a whole.
  3. Does each session have an already determined agenda or is this something we create with you? I will determine the agenda beforehand, but as we get to know one another, I will format activities in accordance with our (mutual) growth!
  4. If we do more than one session to accommodate numbers, will each session be the same/similar structure?  The entire program is 3 sessions. Each session is similar in structure and builds off of the previous meeting(s).
  5. How frequently do teams tend to have their sessions with you? Once a week, every other week, once a month? Some teams meet weekly, some meet monthly. I’ve even had a team meet from Aug-Dec because they got hit with TWO hurricanes! All that to say, whatever is best for the team is best for me!
  6. We have been having equity conversations as a whole team and some as womxn's and open teams. Can this space be a mix of our womxn's and open teams? I would LOOOOVE for this to involve the entire ultimate program! I will undertake such an endeavor for the first time this Spring with GaTech. I coach the B-team girls, but the whole program has contracted D/D! In order to accommodate just under 75 players, they have purchased 3 separate (3-session) bundles. This way, they can offer 3 dates for each of the 3 sessions to enable max participation. I am looking very forward to the multiplied human perspective that will accompany greater attendance!
  7. When is payment due? Payment is due in advance of the session! Typically teams begin with the INTRO payment. Once we meet and formally decide to grow together, team session payment is arranged!
  8. Do you have outlines or written general summaries for the sessions such that folks can understand what they might be expected to share, reflect on, etc? I only share session outlines/details with clients. It’s to protect my intellectual property. I’ve already had organizations use my materials to carry out “their own” equity trainings!
  9. Will there be expectations that folks share experiences of racism? How is it usually addressed such that there is not undue burden on the POC that are participating to share experiences and to ensure a safe space? There will absolutely be an expectation for people to share experiences of racism! The thing about systems of oppression is that they thrive on our collective silence. With respect to the POC burden, my partner in equity (also a Black woman) and I are well-seasoned in carrying the load!
  10. Someone raised concern around the recording of the session creating a less safe feeling space. Do you always record? How do you generally address this, if you've heard it before? Yes! I always record! With respect to safety, I think the experience in and of itself is relative! Where one person might feel threatened at the idea of being “digitally captured”, another (I’m raising my hand:) may find safety in knowing there is evidence of their actions/words.
